It seems like we all know someone who is battling a health issue, whether it’s a cancer diagnosis or depression, and sometimes it’s hard to know how to pray for someone with health issues.

It’s even harder to know how to pray for someone who has an undetermined diagnosis.

Maybe you know someone who has terrible symptoms, but doctors can’t determine the root cause of what’s going on.

Or perhaps you know someone who has gotten the wrong diagnosis.

These situations can be frustrating and exasperating.

But our God is a God of LIGHT and of TRUTH.

And God says that His light and truth will guide us! Check out Psalm 43:3!

Psalm 43:3

“send forth Your light and Your truth, let them guide me.”

We can ask God to help guide these situations with His light and truth to either help clear up what we strongly believe is a wrong diagnosis or to help doctors see what the real root of the problem is for someone’s symptoms.

Psalm 43_3

What the Bible Says About God as LIGHT

Genesis 1:3-5

“And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.  God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.  God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.”

Psalm 119:105

“Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and light unto my path.”

Isaiah 60:19-20

“The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end.”

Psalm 36:9

“For You are the fountain of life, the light by which we see.”

John 1:4-5

“In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

These verses remind us that God IS light.

God is the light by which we see.

He is the light that shines into the darkness, and the darkness CANNOT overcome it!

God can bring light unto our path.

Just as a child can sleep better with a night light to help them overcome their fear of the dark, we too can sleep better knowing that God, the God that knows and created EVERYTHING, can bring light into our live.

And not only will He bring light into our lives, but Psalm 36:9 says that He can also bring more life to our lives!

How amazing is that?

For someone who is dealing with a health issue, I have to believe that having more LIFE would be amazing.

So we want to make sure that we pray for God to bring forth His fountain of life within the person who is struggling with health issues (or struggling with anything really – couldn’t we all use the fountain of life within us?!)

Psalm 119_105

What the Bible Says About God as TRUTH

John 8:32

“Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”

Psalm 25:5

“Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”

John 14:6

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

In these verses, we see that God can guide us in truth.

Psalm 25:5 is King David himself asking for God to guide him and teach him.

I think the second part of that verse is key as well – David says that his hope is in God all day long.

Have you put your hope in God?

Do you believe in Jesus?

If you haven’t put your faith in Jesus, please check out my post Will you choose God?

Now I’m not saying that God doesn’t do miracles UNLESS you believe, I just want to point out that IF you believe, then you will have more advocates.

When you put your faith and hope in Jesus, then you have Jesus as an advocate AND Jesus promises us the Holy Spirit.

And the Holy Spirit is also known as the spirit of TRUTH!

Check out this verse:

John 16:13

“but when He, the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you in all truth.”

Putting this all together, as believers we can pray to God to guide us in truth, ask Jesus to be the way and the truth and the life in our lives, AND we can pray to the Spirit to guide us in ALL truth.

This is critical in situations where you feel like Satan is concealing the truth.

When you feel like there is a wrong diagnosis or if there’s an unknown origin from which a medical issue is coming, we can pray to God, Jesus, and the Spirit for truth, clarity, insight, wisdom, and guidance!

Are you unsure about putting Your hope and faith in Jesus?

How to Pray for Someone with Health Issues

So let’s put this all together – we know we have a God of light, life, and truth.

We need that light, life, and truth revealed in our situation.

That means we need to request these things in prayer.

I know some people think that since God knows our every thought, that He should just give us the things we are thinking of.

But actually, going to God in prayer is so important!

So let’s pray!

PRAYER

God, I lift up {insert person’s name} to You.

God, we consecrate {insert person’s name} to You and bring {his/her} life under the rule and dominion of Jesus Christ, who is the true Lord.

I proclaim Genesis 1:3 over this situation-LET THERE BE LIGHT.

Father, shine Your light on this diagnosis and on these medical records and let only truth remain.

Shine Your light over {insert person’s name}’s life.

Reveal to {insert person’s name} what is really going on here.

Let {him/her} trust in You above anything that man is saying.

We know that You will only speak truth.

God, we ask for Psalm 43:3 “send forth Your light and Your truth, let them guide me” and Psalm 119:105 “Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

God, we recognize that You are the sole source of clarity and truth.

I ask that You would put Your physical light, Your radiance in {insert person’s name} and on {his/her} path.

Let Your light and truth guide {insert person’s name}.

We declare Psalm 36:9 “For You are the fountain of life, the light by which we see”.

I call forth Your fountain of life within {insert person’s name} and that You will be the light by which we will see that life.

Satan, you are not welcome here.

We declare that Satan has no power over {his/her} life or over the medical records or the doctors and that only Your truth goes before {him/her}.

Satan, {insert person’s name} is made and created in the image of God.

{Insert person’s name} has been bought and paid for with the blood of Christ, who died so that all might live.

Satan, you hold no power over {insert person’s name}, you do not get to make the death pronouncement nor cancer pronouncement over {his/her} life.

We call on the mighty name of Jesus and his angels to drive you out and defeat you.

We drive out any darkness, spirits of fear, or oppression from {insert person’s name}.

In the name of Jesus, we declare health and wellness over {insert person’s name}.

God, we also recognize that You are the source of all knowledge, wisdom, and revelation.

God, we recognize Your great power as Daniel did in Daniel 2:20-23.

You alone change the times and the seasons.

God, You set kings and dispose of them.

You control the course of world events.

God, we KNOW that You control this situation.

You reveal deep and mysterious things, and You know what lies in the darkness.

Just as You granted Daniel wisdom and opened his eyes to what the King’s dream was, we ask for You to reveal to {insert person’s name} what is going on and open {his/her} eyes to truth.

We also thank You for graciously giving us the Holy Spirit, our counselor, for situations such as this.

Spirit, we ask that You would guide {insert person’s name} in truth.

We ask John 16:13 “but when he, the spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you in all truth.”

Holy Spirit, please give to {insert person’s name} all the truth of what’s going on here.

Open {his/her} eyes to the supernatural and spiritual and give {him/her} the truth {he/she} needs to make wise decisions about {his/her} own life.

I pray that {insert person’s name} would feel empowered to make decisions for {himself/herself} and not feel forced into anything that doesn’t feel right.

Let {him/her} question everything and gain wisdom in return.

Holy Spirit, we need your help!

Come and give counsel and guidance and direction.

We declare Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.”

We ask all of this for {insert person’s name}.

We pronounce: LET THERE BE LIGHT HERE.

IN JESUS’S POWERFUL AND HEALING NAME WE ASK ALL OF THIS.

AMEN!
